Native Plants, Non-native Plants, Invasive Species — what’s the difference?

Exotic and Invasive plants affect our flatwoods ecosystem by degrading our soil, leading to erosion that can lower the quality of our water. Some invasive species can outcompete many native species– how do we prevent the infestation and spreading of invasive species?

Come and learn with your Host Michael Terry. Mike works with the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) to prevent the spread of invasive plant species.

Originally from Missouri, Mike has lived in Florida since he was 13 years old. Michael is a Senior Vegetation Management Specialist. For 36 years he has been working with, identifying and treating Aquatic and terrestrial invasive/exotic species. He works with SWFWMD Properties including: Starkey Wilderness Preserve, Upper Hillsborough, Alston Tract, Cypress Creek, Connerton Trail, Annutteliga Hammock and Green Swamp East.

Mike’s job also includes working with control burns and managing wildfires.
