Burial Crew Training

Heartwood Preserve 4100 Starkey Blvd, Trinity, FL, United States

Our Burial Crew is a group of special people who assist with the natural burials that take place at Heartwood Preserve. This is a unique opportunity to help families have a meaningful closure to their loved one’s life. The Burial Crew primarily helps to carry the deceased from the hearse (or other vehicle) to the grave, set the body over the grave, lower the body by hand (with ropes) into the grave, and finish closing the grave – after the family has participated as much as they want. We will go over: What to Expect “Crew” vs “Helper” Dress Code Day-of Routine Safety Logistics Payment Q & A Hands on practice of Lifting & Lowering of the deceased If this sounds like something that you may be interesting in doing, please come and join our staff and current Crew & Helpers for this training night! Ignite the Fire! Raffle

Each $50 donation will be given a chance in a random Ignite the Fire! drawing. 100% of donations will go to the Heartwood Conservation Endowment Fund. The lucky winner gets the chance to Ignite the Fire at Heartwood’s next Prescribed Burn and to witness firsthand what it’s like on our Burn Day. You do not need prior experience or knowledge to be eligible to participate. We welcome all who are interested in this unique experience to submit their chance to light the first fire of the day. Working alongside Florida Forestry Service crew and our own Certified Burn Manager, Laura, you will be an honorary member of the Burn Crew and may participate in the morning planning huddle, be on weather watch, light the initial fire, and safely observe the burn. SUBMIT YOUR ENTRY TO ENTER:  🔥Visit our online donation page via Give Butter to purchase your tickets for the raffle. Every $50 will give you a chance in the drawing. (Keep an eye when finalizing your submission. Give Butter adds a default, optional tip for their service. You do not need to tip in order to participate. Feel free to remove the tip at checkout.) 🔥We will be accepting submissions from June 18 - July 14. 🔥At noon on Monday, July 15, we will Go Live on Facebook for the drawing of the winner!     MORE INFO:  🔥Scheduling our Burn Day is dependent on weather, soil, and other conditions and logistics. Florida weather can be unpredictable, so we often don’t know until the day before if we will burn. Your patience and flexibility are greatly appreciated. 🔥Our burn window this year is from mid-July through early September. 🔥The winner must be 18 years or older, sign a liability waiver, and have sufficient physical health to spend time outdoors in mid-summer Florida heat. Length of time outdoors will be limited and the level of winner’s participation on the Burn Day will be at the Burn Manager’s discretion for the health and safety of all. Appropriate clothing is required. Other restrictions may apply. Contact Laura Starkey for details. 🔥In the event that the winner cannot attend on the day of our burn, they may transfer it to someone else, or another winner may be drawn. This opportunity is valid only for the 2024 Prescribed Burn season. In the event that the Prescribed Burn is unable to occur this season for any reason, or the winner is unable to attend, winner understands that the donation made is nonrefundable and is given for the benefit of the Heartwood Conservation Fund.
